Pandora Pandora Pandora Enclosure System Pandora is an enclosure system designed by Diamond Systems for use with our PNL-EAP panel I/O board mated to a Prometheus, Athena CPU board. (When mated to an Athena, the upper temperature limit is reduced.) It features fast and easy assembly due to the fact that most or all internal cables can be eliminated. Rather than requiring the installation of special corner mounts or forcing the stack into a set of corner guides, the entire stack is bolted directly to the front plate of the case, forming a rugged, easily-handled assembly. The PC/104 Pandora case measures 5.5" wide by 5.75" high. It comes in three lengths: The 1.7"(43.18mm) case accommodates the CPU, the panel I/O board, and an optional notebook hard drive. The 3.0"(76.2mm) case accommodates the CPU, panel board, up to two additional PC/104 boards, and an optional notebook hard drive. The 5.0"(127mm) case accommodates the CPU, panel board, up to five additional PC/104 boards, and an optional notebook hard drive. Case lengths accommodate PC/104 boards with stackthrough configuration (long pins on the bottom side) at the bottom of the stack so no special effort is required to obtain non-stackthrough boards or to cut the connector pins. The length is also sufficient to enable mounting a notebook hard drive below the bottom board and attaching it to the rear end plate. The 3.0" length is designed with the intention of accommodating two additional boards. A typical configuration might include a VGA board and a DC/DC power supply for use in mobile applications. However any two boards can be installed. The interior cavity is wide enough to install any PC/104 board with almost any I/O connector, including pin headers with ejector latches. Each Pandora case includes case body, front plate to accommodate the panel board, rear plate, and all mounting hardware (screws and spacers). Additional end plates are available separately. Can-Tainer (CT104) Can-Tainer (CT104) Rugged PC/104 Enclosure System The Can-Tainer is a rugged PC/104 enclosure system constructed of .125" aluminum and designed for hostile and mobile environments. It features a dual system of shock and vibration isolation: The PC/104 modules are mounted axially in the enclosure with four internal rubber corner rails to absorb high-frequency vibrations, while the entire enclosure is mounted on the host platform with a thick rubber pad which absorbs low-frequency G-forces. The rubber pad is optional and may be removed. To mount boards or items such as hard drives that are larger than 3.550" x 3.775", use the optional CTn-VD00 mounting plates. These install into rails that run the length of the enclosure. For smaller items, an optional PC/104-size aluminum plate, CT-AL00, enables you to mount accessories directly onto the PC/104 stack. An optional fan kit (CT-FAN) provides forced air cooling. To provide air flow through the Can-Tainer, drill intake holes at the point where the fan is mounted and exhaust holes at one additional location (usually at one end cap). For a sealed environment with only conduction cooling, the fan may be mounted offset from the enclosure wall using custom hardware. Each Can-Tainer can be ordered with a variety of optional end caps including blank end cap and end cap with preformed cutouts for 4x DB9 and 2x DB25 connectors. Additional predesigned end caps are available, or you may design your own using the blank end cap. The Can-Tainer cross section measures 6.00" wide by 5.45" high (not including mounting pad). It is available in five standard lengths of 4", 6", 8", 10", and 12" (order no. CT-n where n = length in inches). To calculate the height of your PC/104 stack, refer to the table below. To compute the length of the Can-Tainer you need, add appropriate room at each end for any cabling. Usually about 1" of additional room is needed at any end that will have one or two cables, up to 2" for more cables, depending on how the cables are routed inside the enclosure.
