Mercator
PC/104-Plus Expansion Module with Ethernet and Digital I/O
The Mercator PC/104 module integrates 2 PCI-based 10/100 Ethernet ports with 24 user-configurable digital I/O lines in the compact and rugged PC/104 format. This 2-in-1 combination of Ethernet and digital I/O can help lower the size and cost of your embedded system by eliminating one additional board from your PC/104 stack.
The Ethernet ports utilize the National Semiconductor DP83815 Mac + Phy PCI controller chip and are NE2000 compatible.
The 24 digital I/O lines are based on an 82C55 chip and feature programmable direction in 4- and 8-bit groups. All I/O lines contain user-configurable 10K Ohm pull-up resistors for convenience.
Extended temperature capability (-40 to +85ºC) enables the board to operate in environments with extreme temperature swings, such as vehicles or outdoor installations. In addition, the board may be custom-configured with 0-ohm resistors in place of jumper blocks for increased ruggedness in high-vibration environments.
Diamond Systems offers appropriate mating cables for your convenience. Cable no. C-PRZ-02 provides a panel-mountable RJ-45 connector for the Ethernet, and cable no. C-26-18 is a 26-conductor ribbon cable for the digital I/O.
A low-cost version with one Ethernet port and no digital I/O is also available as model no. MRC-100-XT.

For users who need a higher level of integration than our standard products deliver, we offer this two-in-one board with 4 RS-232 serial ports, 48 digital I/O lines, and extended temperature operation.
Each serial port provides the standard set of PC serial port signals. The ST16C554 quad UART chip on board contains a 16-byte FIFO for each port and supports data rates of up to 115kbps. Interrupt sharing is fully supported among the four serial ports, and an interrupt status register enables the board to operate under Windows NT. Eight different address combinations are possible, and any of 11 different interrupt levels can be used.
The 48 digital I/O lines feature programmable direction on a line by line basis, and all lines have 10KOhms pull-up resistors. One group of 24 lines includes the additional feature of programmable edge detection. Both active line selection and edge polarity are programmable. Status registers indicate which, if any, lines have changed logic levels in the selected manner since the last status check. An interrupt can be generated on the PC/104 bus whenever the indicated activity occurs.

8-Port RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 PC/104 Module
Now with higher density than ever, our new Emerald-MM-8 gives you 8 serial ports on a single PC/104 module.
In RS-232 mode, the full complement of standard PC serial port signals (8 signals + ground) are provided for each port. In RS-422 mode, Signals RX+, RX-, TX+, and TX- are provided, along with ground. In RS-485 mode, signals TX+/RX+ and TX-/RX- are provided, along with ground. Ports are grouped 4 per 40-pin I/O header. Ports 1-4 are on the right, and ports 5-8 are on the left.
Two 16C654 quad serial port ICs are used for the serial ports. This chip supports data rates up to 460.8kbps and contains a 64-byte transmit and receive FIFOs for each port to minimize processor
Each version of the board provides 8 serial ports operating at speeds up to 460.8kbps. Several versions are available:

PC/104-Plus PC Card/Cardbus Adapter
PPM-Cardbus is a PC/104-Plus module that supports both Cardbus and PC cards. Its purpose is allow expansion of additional functions such as 802.11 wireless, IEEE-1394 Firewire, USB 2.0, SCSI, and other high-performance functions that have been developed for mobile computing environments. Cardbus supports 32-bit PC Cards operating at bus speeds up to 33MHz.
Model 335
PC card and Cardbus Adapter
Model 335 is a bus-to-bus adapter that enables the use of Cardbus or PC Card modules in PC/104+ systems. These provide additional functions such as 802.11 wireless, IEEE-1394 Firewire, USB 2.0, and SCSI interfaces. The 335 supports Type I, Type II, and Type III PCMCIA memory, I/O and ATA hard disk modules such as Toshiba Microdrives. The Cardbus feature supports 32-bit PC Cards operating at bus speeds up to 33MHz.
Status lights
Three LED lamps are positioned at the CardBus edge to facilitate viewing 335 status.
Interrupts
Parallel PCI interrupts are available to the PC/104+ bus while ISA interrupts are available at the PC/104 connector.
Mechanical design
The 335’s Cardbus connector is soldered to the carrier board to make it mechanical robust. An insulating partition on the component side prevents Cardbus boards from touching circuit board traces.
Accessories
Sensoray-supplied compact flash and wireless Ethernet adaptors are guaranteed to work when used with Sensoray’s CPU’s and software.
